Journalist and author Simon Carswell will appear before the Oireachtas Banking Inquiry on Tuesday, 10th March as the Committee begins its context phase hearings on relationships between State authorities, political parties, elected representatives, supervisory authorities, banking institutions and the property sector.<\/p>\n
Chairman Ciaran Lynch TD: \u201cSimon Carswell is Washington Correspondent with The Irish Times. He was previously Finance Correspondent covering the banking crisis from 2007 to 2012. He was appointed Washington Correspondent in December 2012. He is the author of two books Something Rotten: Irish Banking Scandals and Anglo Republic: Inside The Bank That Broke Ireland, a bestseller in 2011. He was previously a News Reporter and News Editor of The Sunday Business Post.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs part of our hearings on the area of relationships between State authorities, political parties, elected representatives, supervisory authorities, banking institutions and the property sector, he will address the Committee on how the property sector and the banking sector interacted with government, elected representatives and the State during the period prior to the banking crisis in Ireland, and the nature of the relationships between those groups. He will also talk about controls or structures, if any, exist to regulate these relations and whether being a small country is a factor, or not, in terms of any such relationships.\u201d<\/p>\n
The hearing with Simon Carswell starts at 5pm in Committee 2, Leinster House.<\/p>\n
