Professor Bill Black and Mario Nava will appear before the Oireachtas Banking Inquiry as it continues its public hearings, tomorrow, Thursday, 5th February 2015.
Chairman Ciaran Lynch TD: “Tomorrow, as part of our context hearings, the Committee will meet with Professor Bill Black and Mario Nava.
“Bill Black, who is Associate Professor of Law and Economics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, will be addressing the Committee on banking policy, systems and practices. Professor Black’s areas of expertise are in white collar crime, public finance, antitrust and economics. He recently helped the World Bank develop anti-corruption initiatives and served as an expert for the United States’ Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight in its enforcement action against former senior management at Fannie Mae, the Federal National Mortgage Association.
“Mario Nava is Director for Regulation and Supervision of Financial Institutions, Directorate General for Financial Stability, Financial Services and the Capital Markets Union at the European Commission. He will provide the European Commission’s perspective on the fitness of the European Union regulatory framework for banks and the supervisory policies, systems and practices in the run-up to the financial crisis, the lessons learned and improvements made in the last few years.”
The meeting with Professor Bill Black starts at 9.30am in Committee 3, Leinster House. Mario Nava will address the Committee at 11.45am.
