Banking Inquiry to engage with Jean-Claude Trichet at IIEA event

The Oireachtas Banking Inquiry Committee will engage with former President of the ECB Jean-Claude Trichet at an Institute of International and European Affairs (IIEA) meeting in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham on Thursday, 30th April 2015 at 2.30pm.

Mr Trichet will deliver a speech on the Governance of the ECB: past, present and future. The event will be chaired by Brendan Halligan, Chairman of the IIEA, with responses by Dr Michael Somers, Vice-Chairman of AIB, and Professor Gavin Barrett, UCD School of Law.

Committee Chairman Ciarán Lynch said: “Mr Trichet will be addressing a meeting of the IIEA in a personal capacity on Thursday and has agreed to engage with the Committee at this event. The Committee has agreed to attend this meeting which will take place in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, starting at 2.30pm. The Committee will engage with Mr Trichet following his opening statement at the event. This is an opportunity for us to use this engagement as ‘evidence’ in our inquiry. Web-casting or live streaming of the event and Q&A session, in addition to a written transcript, will also be provided.”
