Oireachtas Banking Inquiry to meet Professor Ed Kane as part of public hearings

27/01/2015

Professor Ed Kane will appear before the Oireachtas Banking Inquiry as it continues its public hearings, tomorrow, Wednesday, 28th January 2015.

Chairman Ciaran Lynch TD: “Tomorrow, as part of our context hearings, the Committee will meet with Ed Kane, Professor of Finance at Boston College, when we concentrate on banking policy, systems and practices. Professor Kane’s specific research areas include financial crisis management; deposit insurance; causes and implications of financial change; and the changing structure of financial services competition and regulation. As well as authoring three books, he has published widely in professional journals and currently serves on six editorial boards. The expression ‘zombie bank’ – for a bank that is insolvent, but is kept alive through federal assistance – was first used by Professor Kane in an academic paper published in 1987. He also consults for the World Bank and is a senior fellow in the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation’s Center for Financial Research.”

The meeting with Professor Ed Kane starts at 9.30am in Committee 1, Leinster House.
