Oireachtas Banking Inquiry starts preparations for Nexus Phase hearings

29/01/2015

The Oireachtas Joint Committee of Inquiry into the Banking Crisis has started preparations for the Nexus Phase hearings which are scheduled to commence in April 2015.

Chairman Ciaran Lynch TD: “During the Nexus phase, we will engage with institutions and individuals who had roles during the crisis. The Committee has started its preparations for this phase which is due to begin in April, outlining how the public hearings are to be scheduled. As we are at the early stages of our preparations, the Committee will not be publishing or announcing the meeting schedule until the list has been finalised and potential witnesses have been contacted.

“In relation to Committee’s work in seeking documents and other material to assist preparations for the Nexus phase public hearing, written submissions were received from the various institutions in early January and we are pleased with the co-operation we have received so far. The Committee has formally directed the institutions to provide the information requested and we have started to receive that material.

“Following receipt of correspondence last week from An Taoiseach Enda Kenny which provided positive signals from the European Central Bank that it will co-operate with the Inquiry and assist it in advancing its work, I will meet shortly with Central Bank Governor Professor Patrick Honohan to examine the options presented to see how the ECB can further our work and how we proceed with the inquiry. In particular, the Committee is interested in the information that the ECB would make available to the Committee to assist us in our work and that may be admissibly used as evidence.”
