Oireachtas Banking Inquiry to hear from Professor John FitzGerald

Professor John FitzGerald will appear before the Oireachtas Banking Inquiry as it continues its public hearings, tomorrow, Wednesday, 11th February 2015.

Chairman Ciaran Lynch TD: “John FitzGerald has been a Research Affiliate at the ESRI since November 2014. Prior to that, he was a Research Professor at the ESRI and Programme Coordinator of the Macroeconomics Research Area. He is a joint author of the ESRI’s Medium-Term Review, which provides a detailed analysis of Ireland’s economic prospects over the next decade.

“Professor FitzGerald will address issues relating to the international, EU and domestic policy context for the banking crisis in Ireland, in particular sources of growth in Ireland in the 1990s and in the years prior to the banking crisis; credit growth from the late 1990s onwards; the housing market; the increasing size of the construction sector; and fiscal policy prior to the crisis.”

The meeting with Professor John FitzGerald starts at 9.30am in Committee 1, Leinster House.
